Youth in AviationSprings Aviation has recognized many benefits for ground and flight training for children and young adults. Students need to be 16 years of age before they solo, and 17 before they receive their Private Pilot Certificate. The only restrictions are whether they can reach and control the rudder and see outside the aircraft. Aviation training offers a direction in career development. It requires that individuals focus on studies, as opposed to general education, where it is sometimes difficult for young people to see a correlation between their studies and their eventual career. Aviation ground school involves history, mechanics, physics, math, communications, meteorology and safety, which requires the student to use memorization, calculation, reading, decision making and application of theories for a practical purpose. The process of flight training requires a consistent study regimen, building disciplined study habits. Since the studies are rewarded with the paired flight training, the student is able to experience the immediate effects of their studies, reinforcing the importance of education for positive results. To fly, one must communicate and react, which should assist the student to further develop communication and decision making skills with peers and adults as well. Some grants are available to students interested in pursuing a future in aviation. One source we are proud to be involved with is Aviation Education Foundation of Colorado Free Aviation training is available for children 15 and over by Aviation Education Foundation of Colorado. This is a non-profit organization funded by donations to provide ground and flight training for youths that can demonstrate a desire for a career in Aviation. In addition, the organization The Ninety-Nines, Inc., a non-profit women’s pilot organization provides scholarships for young women that demonstrate an aptitude towards a flying career.
