Ground Requirements
1) What are the eligibility requirements to be a Private Pilot? (6 requirements)
2) What are the privileges and limitations placed upon you as a Private Pilot?
3) What are the categories and classes of aircraft? (5 categories, 4 classes)
4) Who is ultimately responsible for all aspects of the flight?
5) What are the FAA limitations on alcohol consumption/use?
6) Be able to compute the takeoff/landing distances based on information (temperature and pressure altitude) I will give you using the POH.
7) Be able to compute the crosswind component based on conditions I will give you.
8) Be able to give a basic description of these systems:
a. Ignition
b. Fuel
c. Oil
d. Pitot/Static Instruments
e. Gyroscopic Instruments
9) Be able to explain the basic aerodynamic principles of the airplane.
10) Explain Bernoulli’s Principle.
11) Know ALL of the V-Speeds for your aircraft.
12) Know the right-of-way rules for airborne vessels.
13) Know the minimum safe altitudes over terrain and obstacles.
14) Be able to explain the traffic pattern and radio procedures for COS.
15) Be able to explain communication failure procedures for both tower-controlled airports and non-towered airports.
16) Explain Land-and-Hold-Short Operations and how it affects Student Pilots.
17) Be able to compute a Weight and Balance for the aircraft.
18) Be able to explain the effects of a forward CG verses an aft CG.
19) Know the Dimensions and Equipment Requirements of Class B, C, and D airspace.
20) Recite the phonetic alphabet (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie. etc).
21) Recite the 3 steps to perform if you lose an engine and are forced to make an emergency engine-out landing.
Flight Requirements
2) Engine-Out emergency procedures
3) Landings, landings, landings. This means the nose wheel comes down LAST and you are on the centerline, with correct crosswind control as needed.
